You asked: “What’s the most impactful thing a company can do to be inclusive?”

Work on their culture. A place where people feel they can be themselves is the most effective way to encourage inclusivity. Once people feel notice that there is an accepting culture, they will be more open about their own diversity, which will in turn encourage more diverse applicants to apply.


Education is needed for any major shift in any non-inclusive culture. They need to get positive conversations started and keep them going. This can be training, ERGs and people sharing their lived experiences with the company – anything that gets people talking and understanding the benefits of an inclusive workplace.


We would recommend formal training in neurodiversity, as a neuroinclusive environment is, by its nature, inclusive to the other protected characteristics. Management training is often useful, or a more general “Conversation Starter” training package (6 x 1 hour sessions delivered once a month for 6 months) to get the ball rolling.
